ParaQuad SA (PQSA) is the peak community body for people living with Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) in South Australia, and they are one of six Peak Bodies that work with LSA and participate in policy development and service improvement.
PQSA is a member of the Australian Spinal Injury Alliance, which includes the spinal cord injury organisations from each Australian state. When the group next meets, in March, they will commence development of a new spinal cord injury national strategy and discuss the rollout of the NDIS.
With a key role of providing services directly to newly-injured people within the Hampstead Spinal Injuries Unit and acute health system, PQSA have a natural synergy with LSA and share a mutual mission to support people with catastrophic injuries.
PQSA upholds a care, support, lobbyist and educator role within the SCI and wider community and facilitates the support and care necessary to ensure people with SCI are supported at every stage of their lives.
The organisation provides a range of services to LSA participants that include an accommodation advisory service, home-based counselling, a family support group, and HomeCare+, a fee-for-service at-home 24-hour attendant care service, among many other services.
Chief executive officer Peter Stewart firmly believes in the worth of the Scheme for people with severe injuries.
“A compensation system that ensures individuals who sustain catastrophic injuries now receive appropriate and reasonable support for the rest of their journey living with disability makes absolute sense. It is economically and socially responsible policy.”
“In addition to the ongoing provision of our existing services to participants, we work closely with LSA to develop new services that will contribute to improve the support provided to Scheme participants.”
“As an accredited service provider, we expect our clients and their loved ones to know that, when accessing Support Services and HomeCare+ services, they will receive the highest level of support that will address their needs effectively,” he said.
