International Day of People with Disability
Celebrate on the Square 2018
The United Nations has sanctioned December 3 to mark International Day for People with Disability (IDPwD). It’s a day to raise public awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability and to celebrate their achievements and contributions.
Along with our partners PQSA and Brain Injury SA, we celebrated with over 600 people in perfect weather. Participants, families and guests mingled with 44 stallholders representing the disability sector and were entertained by the energetic antics of the Lolly Jar Circus, and the smooth sounds of Cal Williams Jnr.
The Minister and Shadow Minister for Human Services welcomed and addressed attendees. Para Triathlete Scott Crowley was interviewed by hosts Adelady and the Commissioner for Public Sector Employment launched a new employment initiative for people with disability.
Mrs Lan Le, the wife of His Excellency the Governor presented the inaugural 2018 IDPwD Awards and congratulated the deserving winners:
Outstanding Person with a Disability
- Richard Davis and Vivienne Duffett
- Tyler Rutka-Hudson
- Lois Cox
