LSS’s participants are at the centre of everything we do at the LSA, and their feedback is vital to ensuring we are delivering the services they need.
We were very pleased to have received the results of our first participant survey, which showed overwhelmingly positive feedback from participants. This gives us a clear indication that our work is delivering the high standards we expect.
I extend my thanks to participants and their families and carers for sharing their experiences with us. I also thank the University of South Australia’s Dr Saravana Kumar and his team for their thoroughness and professionalism in conducting the survey.
You can read more about the survey results in this edition of the LSS News.
We have also finalised a review and update of the LSS Rules, which is the detailed document explaining the eligibility criteria of the LSS, rules for disputes about eligibility, and how treatment, care and support needs are assessed. The LSS Rules support the LSA to deliver quality, person-centred and sustainable services to participants.
The review process included consultation with key stakeholders, including the LSS Participant Reference Group. The updates were primarily to improve the functionality and clarity of the LSS Rules, to ensure the LSS continues to operate effectively.
A key change is to broaden the eligibility criteria for people who suffer amputations (or equivalent impairment) from a motor vehicle accident to become participants. The people experience the same challenges as those with higher level amputations which have been covered by the LSS to date.
You can download the LSS Rules here.
It will be my privilege later this year to present our progress and achievements to the South Australian Parliament, as a part of the Social Development Committee’s review into the effectiveness and fairness of the Scheme.
I am grateful to the organisations and individuals who have provided written submissions to the review.
Along with our valued partners Brain Injury SA and PQSA, we are working towards another big International Day of People with Disability event on December 1st.
Please put the date in your diaries – it will be great to have you join us for this special day to celebrate the achievements of people living with disability.
Kind regards,
Tamara Tomic
